The corridor hallway was illuminated with floating candle light, night had begun its descent on the castle drenching it’s darker corners in thick shadow. Having spent the entirety of the evening in the library Jasmine had missed dinner a low grumble from her stomach churned its protest, groaning to herself the blonde held the book tighter as if squeezing it hard enough between her fingers would quell any hunger pains. Of course it wasn’t as though she’d starve, Jasmine had an impressive collection of sweets and cakes from Honeydukes her bedside table having stocked up on sweets last time she’d visited the village. Finally she reached the portrait and after mumbling out the password to a rather disgruntled fat lady the door swung open and she stepped inside to the warmth of the common room.
The sun was completely down now and as the lamps slowly flickered on one by one the royally decorated common room was suddenly filled with a warm cosy glow. Laying out on one of the comfy sofa’s Jasmine yawned tiredly as she faced the fire, the room was practically empty, with only a few stragglers hanging around it was a peacefully quiet for once. Stretching out her legs to the end of the sofa, she tucked her head beneath a pillow and reached for the book she’d brought with her, frowning she pulled it open to the assigned chapter, astronomy had seemed like such a good subject to take at the time but now in her NEWT years Jasmine wished she’d chosen something simpler. Her eyes danced over the long chapters as she tried to take in the assigned reading they’d been given groaning as she realised there was at least ten more pages to make notes on.
