Queenie was glad to be back, teaching her students again. She enjoyed melding young minds and teaching them things that would truly help them in their lives. Divination - what good was that unless you were actually psychic? It was a pointless subject but charms? It was all about learning how to live with magic, it was essential for the younger students to learn these charms and remember them and this year was going to be a heavy load because next year, the majority of these students had the option not to take her class.
Looking at her class she had not allowed them to take their seats, instead they were all gathered at the door way, waiting for further instructions. "It is a pleasure to have you all back again, bright faced and bushy tailed, eager to learn! I hope you all had great summer holidays and if we have time at the end of the class we can discuss what everyone did or you can break away in groups and talk but first, the lesson! Today were going to be looking at the Disarming spell! With a wave of her wand the room was empty and void of all things but the students belongings, the students themselves, Queenie and a large pile of cushions.
"I need you all to be sure that you can see me, okay? Get a good view. At the back, come forward a little. I'm going to demonstrate the correct wand movement of the disarming spell. So everyone please get your wands out and put your bags to the side of the room." Queenie waited for her students to do as was asked and when they were back again she greeted them all with a cheery smile.
"Okay, watch closely. Start at the top, bring your wand down into a loop to the right, gradually getting smaller until it's pointing back up again. It's a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it, it never leaves you. Have a go." Queenie lead them all again in the movement of the wand. She lead them over and over again until she felt happy that they had it.
"Excellent guys, well done. Next is the pronunciation of the spell Expelliarmus. ex-PELL-ee-ARE-muss. Okay, give it a go but keep your wands at your sides, no movements, ex-PELL-ee-ARE-muss, ex-PELL-ee-ARE-muss" The last thing she needed was for someone to be waving their wand around and accidentally disarm the whole class or worse, set them on fire. It had been known to happen with the mispronunciation of this spell.
When the class had practiced it a fair few times Queenie waved her wand and a dummy appeared ahead of them, holding a wand. "Right, now that's your target. You each get three turns to try the spell and then head to the back of the queue. You all have to keep your distance to whomever is at the front of the queue, there will be cushions behind you, just incase you knock yourself off your feet and I'll be here to set the dummy up again after each turn. Give it your best shot and know that I have complete faith in you guys, I know you can do this, it just takes practice. Okay line up and keep your distance from the first." With a wave of her wand she set about a lot of cushions behind the student at the front, hopefully there wouldn't be anything going too wrong this lesson but she had to keep vigilant, this was one of the harder spells to teach.
