luna 'lovegood' scamander |
forty-one . 12 inch yew thestral hair core . former ravenclaw . transfiguration teacher
Open-Minded
Luna is unique in the way that she does not need to see proof in order for it to be real. Dreaming is no less ‘real’ than being awake in her opinion making her very keen on exploring her son’s talent in a constructive yet unrestricted way. For this reason she is nearly immune to the use of sarcasm as one can be, taking every sarcastic comment as a way to improve the person she is. This state of mind allowed her to befriend the Grey Lady of Ravenclaw and eventually lead Harry to the lost Diadem of Ravenclaw when her classmates tried to tell her that it was ‘lost’ for a reason – an Luna knew that it was lost only to those who did not see.
Serene
She is far from quiet but her ‘dreamy’ personality and tone of voice gives the impression that everything she says is said for a reason – much like a Seer would speak like but without the given powers. Other have often described her as ‘dis-attached’ as she somehow comes across as the type to completely remove herself from this world at times whether to escape the cruel taunts of those who won’t know her or to ‘visit’ close friends at the border. This nature seems completely unique to herself as her father was always quite flamboyant – so perhaps she even inherited this from her mother.
Unique/Odd
Nobody can deny that she is a little bit of an oddball and always will be whether she’s instructing her classes in her dream-like state or convincing teachers to accompany her on her summer expeditions to Sweden to find various undiscovered beasts. Whether people care to admit it or not, her weirdness has always been the make-or-break factor with her relationships. When in discussion with the lovely Luna and you happen to see her staring into space you can almost bet that she is admiring the handiwork of the Kwerski Pixus.
Intelligent
Luna was sorted into Ravenclaw in her very first year – ‘wit beyond measure’ – but believes that wit and intelligence is more than just learning from a book. In her later years she has spent much of her time in pursuit of wisdom, to look in places once thought irrelevant for weird and wonderful creatures. Not for fame or fortune but because they were there and they were in need of the attention. She is able to sniff out loopholes in otherwise straightforward questions and is a firm believer that there is never one answer to anything.
Loyal
Having grown up with a relatively small number of friends she has learnt to appreciate them no matter how hard the going is. She has never failed to rise to the calling if one of them is upset and she attended Harry’s Funeral with much sorrow in her heart as she considered him to be the first true friend she ever had.
Perceptive
With the uncanny ability to literally hurt people to how blunt she can be… unintentionally of course. She may not be in touch with her own physical being but she enjoys reading others and watching how they interact with one another but because she has been known to be met with negative responses when she speaks about the ‘obvious’ she keeps most of these opinions to herself – sometimes. As she is a teacher at the Hogwarts these days she has found it a very useful thing indeed but her ‘punishments’ are hardly frightening so people aren’t too concerned about hiding the truth around her.------
Luna has always been considered a bit of an oddity even amongst her friends – which is not surprising when you have been raised by the infamous Xenophilius Lovegood, editor of the popular Wizarding magazine. For this reason she was often ignored or even teased by her peers and although she was aware of the mocking she chose not to act on it reassuring herself that even if the teasing was rather unfortunate it was better than being ignored altogether. Her first few years were awful by any other witch’s standard but with her blazing intellect (However deeply shielded) and determination she excelled academically and even succeeded in making a friend of Ginny Weasley who she also considered to be a bit of an oddity. She sympathized much with Ginny even if it went unnoticed. She couldn’t exactly identify with her large family but considered it awful that the poor girl was left alone while her brothers put themselves in danger. It wasn’t until her fourth year however that she truly blossomed into the woman she wanted to be.
While reading the latest article in The Quibbler she was joined by three other students – Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley and Hermione Granger. She had heard much about Harry Potter from Ginny and her fellow Ravenclaws (Though to be honest, it was more about Quidditch than anything else. It is really surprising how close-minded Ravenclaws can be when it comes to Sports) and was curious to what he was like. Looking back, she believes she might not have made the best impression but it worked out in the long run and the group were joined in the common agreement that Voldemort was back. Luna was one of the first people to join Dumbledore’s army when it was established and mastered her patronus which turned out to be a handsome silver hare. It was Luna that suggested that DA use Thestrals to reach the Ministry when they believed Sirius was in danger and alongside her friends she fought valiantly until she was knocked unconscious by a Death Eater. After the battle Luna told Harry about her mother and her feelings on her death. She was not sad about it but was happy because she knew she would see her again.
Secure in the knowledge that she was not officially ‘part’ of Hogwarts she and her father headed to Sweden in pursuit of a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. When she returned she was for the first time, excited to return to Hogwarts to see her friends and continue DA so she was sorely disappointed when she found out that it was no longer going to continue. She assumed by his awkward expression that this meant the end of their friendship but wanted to spare him the embarrassment of doing so as she was well aware that now that he was famous it might be bad for his reputation of seeing them together however she was pleasantly surprised when he stood up for her and Neville in front of Romilda Vane. From that point forward, she seemed to feed on the confidence and courage of her friends and even in the face of danger she was unflinching – at one point even attempting to steal the sword of Gryffindor and being held captive by Death Eaters. She was present at the second wizarding war and helped hold Bellatrix Lestrange at bay before Molly Weasley killed her.
Even in the later years her personality has barely changed. She left Hogwarts to become a well-known naturalist finding many unidentified creatures once considered imaginary in her usual, dreamy state. During her travels she was often accompanied by a Magizoologist by the name of Rold Scamander – grandson of the famous Newt Scamander. The two were travel companions exclusively for some years until eventually Rolf admitted his feelings for the lovely Loony Lovegood – feelings which she accepted with her usual blunt tone. The two were married but didn’t have children for a while due to Luna’s determination to be the first to find the Crumple-Horned Snorkack but eventually had to admit defeat and the pair had two sons which Luna doted on.
