Veronikeia had loved graduating from Hogwarts and making her own way in the world. Her parents hadn't been as harsh on her as she thought they would have been. She really thought that she was going to be cut off and have to survive on her own but somehow her father had maybe softened a little because they'd found her a place in Diagon Alley to live. It was a rental and they'd paid for the first three months and the bond so all she had to do was find a job.

Finding a job had been quick and easy for Ronni. She'd only applied at one place and got the job. Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour had been looking for some extra help over the summer holidays and Ronni and another girl had been hired. Ronni knew it had only been while the summer holidays were on, but she was offered a permanent position when one of the other staff members quit in favour of working at some bookshop in London. Ronni was pleased as punch to be offered the job and took it at once.

During the summer the ice creamery had been busy every day. Now that the kids were back at school it was quieter but there was a steady flow of customers. Mostly the elderly or those with young children that weren't at Hogwarts. Who didn't love an ice cream on their visit to Diagon Alley? So of course there were random employees of the street every now and then, some that worked in London that visited on their lunch brakes and some that just fancied a trip out. It was safe to say the business was not in any sort of trouble.

Ronni was quite happy at the front of the shop, socialising and serving people. She smiled for everyone and liked to think that she helped brighten their days. When she wasn't serving and there were no customers, she cleaned up behind the counter, wiping down any flakes of ice cream that hadn't quite stayed on the cone, or tidying up the nuts and just organising in general and that was what she was doing now, while it was quiet, but she had an ear open, waiting to listen to the little ding-a-ling of the shop bell above the door.

Hands in his pockets, James walked down the streets of Diagon Alley with a slight frown on his face. He'd just got done sending off an Owl to Tersha, his ex-girlfriend. It had been hard to write and even harder to watch fly away in the clutches of talons. The whole summer, he desired to Owl her, but as he couldn't come up with the words, he always backed down. Recently, however, he'd decided to get over his fear of what Tersha would think of him and sent an Owl anyway. He hoped she'd forgive him. She meant a lot to the eighteen year old.

The only reason he was in Diagon Alley in the first place was because his Hit-Wizard mentor gave him the day off, telling him to unwind before coming back to the ministry. He supposed it was obvious that something was wrong with him. After nearly losing both parents to the Dark Avengers, James hadn't really been himself. He was more prone to irritation and lashed out at others without meaning to. At the ministry, he mostly kept it bottled up so he could eventually use those emotions on the criminals he was supposed to hunt. Because of this, he wasn't focused on training. His eagerness to get out in the field was preventing him from learning the basics. He sighed. To think at the beginning of his seventh year, he wanted to do professional Quidditch. It just went to show things changed for better or worse.

Absentmindedly, James pushed through a door, the ringing of a bell sounding as it closed behind him. The smell of ice cream hung in the air, making his stomach growl. His hand rested on his abdomen as he lurked by the door. It hadn't been his intention to come to the ice cream parlour, but since he was there, he might as well have a scoop anyway. Maybe the taste of it would help take his mind off things.

As he walked up to the counter, a wave of colors met his eyes, bringing his gaze up to the face that held them. His mouth opened just a bit as a name popped into his head. He recognized her! "Veronikeia...?" he asked, hands on the counter. "Is that you?"

The Gryffindor Alumni had known her, at least somewhat, while he was a student at Hogwarts. In the beginning, she'd been quite the cruel character, but somewhere along the line, she had changed. He was glad she did. The world could use more good people. People like her.

The tinkle of the bell above the door came and Ronni jumped up with a beaming smile, happy to have a customer as she moved to behind the Ice cream counter. She of course recognised the stylishly messed up black hair at once. She'd been in the same year as James Potter at Hogwarts and all though she'd never really gotten to know him very well perhaps she would have the chance to now. It was funny how things worked out.

"James! Hello! Yes! It is me, Veronikeia! Oh, but please call me Ronni, I prefer Ronni." She smiled happily, it was nice to see people she'd gone to Hogwarts with. It was kind of seeing people you always thought of as students outside of Hogwarts, and she supposed it was the same for James, still slightly surreal that they were out of Hogwarts and in the real world, learning different things, having actual careers. Though Ronni didn't really feel she had much of a career, she was holding down two jobs quite well. She'd gotten the job at Florean Fortescues quite easily, it was the only job she'd applied for once she'd left Hogwarts and had worked full time over the school holidays when it had been busy every day, but now she was part time which was fine, she enjoyed working here with the bright colours, however if she wanted to continue paying rent she had needed to find another job and that was what she did. She found another part time job at Weasley Wizard Wheezes so three days a week she was here and three days a week she was there, Monday's were her days off and she mostly spent them in Diagon Alley for it was her absolute favourite of places to be, there was always so much colour!

"What can I get you, James?" The man had come in here for ice cream so obviously that was probably his primary concern and Ronni would be glad to chat if he wanted, though of course if he would prefer to just have his ice cream and leave, she was happy with that too. There was very little these days that would bring Ronni down. She liked to stay upbeat and positive, it was what she was all about now and liked to bring a little bit of colour to other's lives, and joy, that was why she loved both of her jobs. They represented everything she was about now! Colourful, sweet, fun and happy! Jokes and ice cream! Who could resist?!
