Lucy had been shopping with her family for about half an hour, and she'd lost them already. Diagon Alley was practically bursting at the seams with teenagers and parents shopping for back to school supplies. Lucy had her Potions kit for her final year, and a brand new cauldron hung from the crook of her arm as she bounced into Flourish and Blotts. She did like the place. It was crooked and homey, and best of all, her eldest cousin Victoire worked there. Discounts, anyone? Lucy wouldn't take advantage, but if the offer was there (and it had been since Vic got the job) she wasn't going to turn her nose up at it! She could spend the money she saved on something brilliant and fancy, like putting it towards a new telescope, or getting her school robes charmed with heat charms for the winter. Yeah! That sounded like a good idea!
Grinning, she dodged through kids and adults alike, and began the long process of gathering all of the books listed on the parchment she had pulled from her jeans pocket. This being her last year, there were a lot to get. Especially since Lucy intended to take as many subjects as she could squeeze into her schedule without dying from exhaustion. She was a bit of an overachiever, but it soothed her competitive nature to know she was doing more than others around her. The huge pile building up in her arms also made her feel a bit smug when she looked at the smaller piles other shoppers were carrying. Oh, yes, Lucy was going to do better than all of them this year! Of course she wished them the best of luck in their own capers. Ahem.
She tottered around the shelves, wondering if any of her cousins, or even close family friends who were just as good as cousins, would find her again any time soon. She didn't mind being separated from them in the crowds, she was old enough now, and capable enough, of taking care of herself whilst shopping, but she did like the company and the chatter they provided. Maybe she would go and look for them once she had her books. Craning her neck, she spotted Vic working away at the counter, where a huge queue would around shelves like a snake. Lucy didn't fancy adding herself to the end of a line that big just then, so she took herself off to the astronomy section and decided to look for any new and interesting books on the subject that she might like to read, making mental notes of titles to look for in the school library.
