physical
physical appearance
Lilwen's Mermaid mother had the palest silver hair, and eyes of ice, her Wizard father possessing aqua eyes and light brown hair. Lilwen finds herself somewhere in the middle. Her hair is long and wavy, falling down her back in glistening sheets of gold. She has her father's face, wide and heart-shaped, with a wide mouth and dazzling smile. Her mother's high cheekbones accentuate her beauty, along with a straight nose and generally soft features. Her eyes are the lightest blue, and absolutely beautiful, twinkling and captivating. Her brows are quite thin and neat, giving her a gentle look.
Lilwen's Mermaid heritage would dictate that she be tall, since all Merfolk are six feet and more, on average. Lilwen, however, possesses human genes, too, and she caught the short gene from her father's mortal family. She stands at a tiny five feet and one inch, and is very dainty looking, like a beautiful little porcelain doll. Her skin is on the paler side, with a soft glow about it and peachy cheeks, and she carries herself with a subtle grace. She has curves, though not really an hourglass like she would prefer, her body is more athletic in type, but she retains a feminine air, always.
Being half Mermaid, Lilwen does have a tail when in water. Her tail is around five feet in length, though she has never measured it, so that's just a guess. It is a stunning pale silver shade, the same as her mother's hair, and shimmers in the sunlight. Her torso is usually wrapped in strips of pretty fabric that she takes a fancy to, and fashions herself a makeshift bra when she's swimming. Lilwen's tail only appears when her legs get wet, so this includes weather, too. Though only heavy rain has an effect on her, causing random patches of scales to break out across her limbs. Mild rain or snow doesn't affect her at all.

Books, Fairytales, romance, being neat and tidy, people who offer genuine friendship without want of reward, the ocean, collecting shells, seagulls, singing, dancing, writing stories, daydreaming, laying out on rocks in the sun, day trips to new places, jokes.
dislikes
Cooking, being judged for her blood status, cruel people, damaged books, crude men, ships or boats, ice, having her privacy invaded, humourless souls, seafood, being reminded of her parents, public swimming places.
erised
To find the man of her dreams and be swept off her feet by her Prince.
amortentia
Salt, roses, old books.
boggart
Ships and hunters (fishermen). Lilwen had a bad experience a few years ago when swimming in the ocean.
dementor
Lilwen's worst memory is the day she was swimming in the sea on a trip down south. She was quite far out into the ocean when a huge fishing boat loomed out of nowhere. Nets came down and tangled her up, and she was terrified for her life, only managing to escape by the skin of her teeth. Then the harpoons came, one catching the side of her tail. She swam as fast as she could to get away, but still has a small scar on her tail when in water from the nightmare experience.
patronus
Lilwen's Patronus takes the form of a Swan. Her happiest memory is being told she could stay at Hogwarts after graduating, as one of the school's Librarians. She was so relieved to be able to stay in the first place she had ever felt at home.
overall personality
Lilwen is a lovely girl. She is sweet and kind, smart and strong, and always has a kind word for people. She is very much a bookworm, and loved to disappear into the different worlds stories create. She is a dreamer, and she isn't the most practical person with it. She lacks ambition, and the determination to make things happen, but she tends to have a little bit of luck on her side to get her through life. She can be impractical and makes choices with her heart, not her head, which can mean she makes the wrong decisions at times.
Despite all of that, though, Lilwen is intelligent. She has the most vivid imagination and often puts it to use, making up tales of her own and entertaining people with her ideas and fantasies about everything in life. She loves to learn, and at school was always one of the first to put her hand up in lessons and offer her own versions of answers. She was usually right, even if she did put answers across in rather unconventional ways. She is steadfast, and is the type of person who will sit and listen to someone ramble for hours, when most other people would have told them to shut up and given up long ago. She can't bring herself to be unkind to good people, so she often goes to painful lengths to be there for others, even if they're not her friends.
She is pretty loyal and trustworthy, and if you ever have a secret that needs to be kept, Lilwen is the person to tell it to. She's subtle and great at handling emergencies or emotional people, as she tends to feel everything personally, and isn't a stranger to bursting into tears, even from happiness. She is a great shoulder to cry on, but this can mean she gets used sometimes, by harsher people who think they can walk all over her. They can, for the most part, but she will stand up for herself in the end. She does kind of give people endless chances though, so you'll always have another shot with her, be it a good or bad one.

history
Wizards swarmed the rocks on the seafront, wands shooting spells into the water as more hoisted a net high above the waves. Inside, a young mermaid screamed, the noise ear-splitting. She was trapped, defenceless, her people trying desperately to get to her, leaping out of the ocean to pull at the net. It was no use, the dark haired man at the head of the hunting party laughed as he ordered the net higher, waiting until she was at his feet, writhing, before he pointed his wand at her. She screamed again, tears of horror streaking her beautiful pale face, eyes of ice pleading with the man she had thought so captivating months earlier.
The killing curse hit her square in the chest, and she crumpled in the net, silver tail hanging limp as the tall man barked more orders. Knives were drawn, the net hoisted on to the rocks, and the mermaid ripped out. He wanted his baby, and there was only one way to get it. Two of his men took knives to her stomach, cutting deep until the baby was out. A little girl, promptly wrapped in blankets, was handed to her father. The Mermaid's body was dumped back in the water with the rest of the dead, and Jasper Hart apparated from the scene, mission accomplished.
Lilwen Menolly Hart grew up knowing full well that she was half Mermaid. There was no hiding it, really, since every bath she took, her legs morphed into a tail. Her father wasn't best pleased about it, but at least she was half witch, too. Pureblood witch, for that matter. He had raised her in a small home in Buttermere, where she was happy enough. Her dad didn't speak to her much, and since it was just the two of them, she developed a love of books, depending on them for company and entertainment from a young age. Her father claimed she might look like her mother, but she got her brains from him. Lilwen didn't really know any different, the only other thing she had been told about Menolly was that she died giving birth to her.
Since she was half witch, Lilwen received a Hogwarts acceptance letter when she was eleven years old, and her father was very pleased, which made her happy. It was the first time in her life she felt like he might be a little bit proud of her. She was sorted into Hufflepuff house, and found it pleasant enough, though staying out of the lake was hard at first. At home she would swim in the local lakes for hours at a time, collecting things and exploring, but in a school where other people would see what she really was? That was a bit daunting.
Lilwen lived her life pretty oblivious to how she had come to be, up until she was fourteen years old. Her father would let her go to the coast sometimes, and she would be thrilled, diving into the ocean without hesitation and revelling in the freedom out there in the deep. One day, she met an old Merman, who asked for her name. He said he knew who she was, for she was the double of her mother, and he revealed to her that he was there the day she was born. Lilwen was told the whole tale, gory bits and all, and was horrified to discover what her father had done. It explained so much about the odd way he had behaved her whole life. He didn't really want her, he had just wanted the only heir he had. Someone to carry on his blood line, even if it was diluted.
Emotional as she was as a young teen, Lilwen took the revelation hard, and she couldn't live with this man knowing he had murdered her mother. Her life could have been so much different! She stooped to sensational depths over it, and arranged with her father to go on a trip together, under the pretence of bonding. He agreed to go for a walk along the shore with her, and she made small talk, leading slowly up to the subject of her mother. Jasper stiffened. What did she know?
Eyes bright, Lilwen faced off with her father, jaw set in determination as she faced her darkest moment, at such a tender age. "You killed my mother. You're a murderer," she accused, wanting to hear nothing from him in return. She didn't care what he had to say. He had deceived her her whole life. He was no father to her. A black veil over her heart, Lilwen turned to face the waves, ignoring his fumbled response. "You need to be punished," she murmured, expression dark. Merfolk began to appear at the surface of the water, one by one, and Jasper froze, terror blatant in his turquoise eyes. She turned to face him "You're not my father any more." With a hard push, she sent her father tumbling into the ocean. Just as she had arranged, the Merfolk struck, dragging Jasper Hart to the depths of the sea. To his death. Never to be seen again.
It took Lilwen a long time to crawl out of the dark hole created by these events, and she spent the whole summer hiding out in the small home she had once shared with her father. She was on her own now. The last thing she wanted was to be put in some orphanage, and as far as she was aware, nobody knew her father was dead. Acting on that faith, she decided it would be best for her to pretend like nothing had happened. To go back to school come September, and to play normal. Her dad had enough money in his Gringott's vault to keep her afloat for years, so she wouldn't need to worry about that, and the house was theirs, so nobody would come calling.
Forcing the darkness from her mind, she continued her schooling, getting decent grades in her exams and feeling more at home than ever at the castle. She even made friends with a few of the staff members, which was odd, but they thought her such a lovely, willing girl, that they would let her sit with them to talk. It became evident when she stopped going home in school holidays that she was happier there than anywhere else, and that she was also a very lonely young woman. The old headmistress took pity on her after graduation and pulled her aside, offering her a position working at the castle. Lilwen was shocked, and more than flattered. She hadn't been expecting anything like this, but it was better than going back to that house and being on her own, wondering what she was supposed to do with her life.
Hogwarts helps her to forget the horrors of her past, so she accepted the job, and moved into her own small quarters in the castle, settling in instantly at the young age of seventeen. Now eighteen, she works her rear end off, loving being in the library and sorting books. She also loves that she can teach little things to new students, and that older ones she was friends with during her own schooling, are still there for her to spend time with. She volunteered to take over the school choir a few months ago, and is having fun putting her beautiful singing voice to good use, too. She visits home every now and then in the holidays, and travels to the coast as often as possible, to the sea.
