physical
physical appearance
Myrtle wears large, thick, circular glasses with metal rims. She has frizzy brown hair, which is loosely pinned down, to no avail. She has thin, wispy bangs that (sort of) cover her thick eyebrows. Her face is round, with large green eyes and a button nose. Myrtle frowns a lot. Her rare genuine smiles are shy and only a slight upturn at the ends of her mouth. However, she often laughs a high-pitched giggling laugh that makes people question her sanity. Her regular voice is flat, but not unpleasant, unless she is yelling, in which it becomes raspy and sharp. Myrtle is small for her age, barely 5'1'. She was often mistaken for being younger than she was when she was alive. Her body is on the chubbier side, but not enough so to be called fat. She does not have much muscle tone.
Myrtle is permanently dressed in her school uniform, which she died in. This consists of a slightly ratty black (dark translucent-white-blue) robe, over a loose, dark jumper and a Ravenclaw tie. She also wears a knee-length, black pleated skirt, paired with knee-high argyle socks and black, closed toed shoes. Myrtle, being a ghost, is the standard translucent whiteish-blue of most ghosts, glowing slightly when it's dark. She often leaves puddles behind her wherever she goes.

overall personality
Although Myrtle was a Ravenclaw, she hated studying and testing. Myrtle did average in school, and believes that she should have been a Hufflepuff. Many of her Ravenclaw classmates believed the same. Myrtle was quiet as a student at Hogwarts, and was often teased. Because of this, she is easily offended, even as a ghost, and the smallest offense can set her off. Because of this, most girls avoid her bathroom, making her even more sad and lonely.
Myrtle herself feels happiness towards other people's discomfort and embarrassment. She likes people who take time to talk to here when they see her. She is usually a good listener, but also enjoys complaining about her own problems to anyone who'll listen. A a ghost, she hears a lot of gossip about students (some told to her by students, some heard while eavesdropping) but does not usually repeat it. Her need to know gossip stems from he unpopularity as a student, where the gossip was usually about her.
Myrtle does not have "effective relationships" with people. She tends to drive people away from her through her bathroom flooding, and wallows in self-pity more often than she should. She becomes exceedingly clingy to those who are nice to her (even if it's just once) and some of her actions can be described as "creepy" or "stalker-like".
Myrtle believes in second chances, and was never angry or vengeful toward Tom Riddle for her death because she was already so sad at the time. She was, however, angry about other deaths, especially the random muggle deaths that became increasingly common after her own death.

history
Myrtle Dorothea Hopkins was born to muggles Jacqueline and Benjamin Hopkins in September of 1929. Her father was a British pilot in the later years of World War I, and her mother was a nurse in France. They met during the war when Benjamin regularly flew medical supplies across Europe. For years after the war, they didn't see each other. A few years after the war, after a failed engagement, Jacqueline moved to England and became a governess for a wealthy family, the Yates. Meanwhile, Benjamin was an engineer, working with the same family's vehicles. They worked, unaware of each other, for months until they met again at a Christmas party. Shortly after, they began to see each other, and were married before the end of the next year.
Myrtle had a mostly happy childhood. Until she was three, her family stayed in England, continuing to work for the Yates. Myrtle was used to being alone because the other children were all older than she was, and no one wanted to play with her. When Myrtle was three, her family moved to Bristol because the Yates had decided to move to America. There were more children her age in Bristol, and she started school there at regular age. Myrtle was smart, but not exceptional, and disliked most of her classmates.
Myrtle showed artistic talent at a young age. She began to play piano at the age of 5, and was decent at it. She later added violin and flute. She also was decent at painting, but didn't enjoy it, so she eventually quit. When her parents tried to get Myrtle to learn to dance, at the age of eight, she tried, and failed. At that point, she also tried horseback riding, in which she fell off of the horse before it even began moving. After that point, Myrtle gave up on sports.
At the age of 11, Myrtle received her Hogwarts letter. Although her parents were reluctant to let her go, they eventually let her go because of World War II, in which they feared for her safety. Sorted into Ravenclaw, she had an uneventful first, second, and third year, where she learned about magic and grew to love it, despite that her classmates still didn't like her much.
At the end of her third year, in 1943, Myrtle was in the second floor bathroom in Hogwarts, when she saw a huge pair of giant yellow eyes, and died. While being found, she realized that she had become a ghost, and proceeded to haunt Olive Hornby, until she was forced to stay on Hogwarts grounds by the Ministry of Magic, upon which she claimed the second floor bathroom as her home. The next year, she tried to talk to her former friends, and they stayed cordial while they were at Hogwarts, but eventually people began to avoid her bathroom.
Myrtle's parents were angry at first, but eventually accepted her death, and were happy that she was preserved as a ghost. They asked her to return home, but she declined because she didn't want to return to the muggle world, where any number of messy situations could happen involving neighbors or their water.
Myrtle was lonely after that, with only a few students ever talking to her. Most students only walked into her bathroom once, then never returned. However, because of the emptiness of her bathroom, it is the perfect place for illegal and/or immoral activities, such as brewing polyjuice potion. The marauders used her bathroom a time or two, although she didn't like them much, so she stayed in her toilet when they came. She talked more with Harry, although he only visited to use he bathroom for the above-mentioned immoral and/or illegal activity of brewing polyjuice.
