May is described as a very attractive young woman. Standing at 5'5 she is quite petite for her age and many of those who work with her tower over her and she has long since accepted the fact that unless she chooses to wear heels and kill her feet then she will always be a pipsqueek next to her contemporaries. She is naturally slender, rarely putting any weight on although most of this is thanks to the fact that she eats a lot of fruit and veg, never eating junk food in quantity and keeping up an active lifestyle in the work she does and the garden she keeps.
Her hair is a mass of blonde ringlets which annoys her to no end and she often charms it to be either straight or more of a gentle wave although working at St Mungos has meant she has very little time to do such things so often scrapes the curls back into a tight bun, hiding it beneath her nurses cap. She has never coloured her hair and has no intention in doing so although she is quite fed up with the blonde jokes! She's heard them all guys....
Like many with blonde hair May has blue eyes which are often described as a beautiful sky blue although they tend to darken when her mood is a negative one. Framed by naturally long lashes she has little need for make up and tends to forgo it most of the time -again, working where she does has stopped the need- although if doing anything special she will make the effort. Her eyebrows are a slightly darker shade compared to her hair and is one of the few things she makes sure is kept on top of even when at her busiest.
Although she doesn't tend to wear makeup it isn't unusual to see her with some pink gloss on her lips although again, it isn't needed for she has naturally full lips and like her eyes she only bothers when she is going out some place other than work. Unfortunately -in her opinion- she suffers from freckles when out in the sun too long and during the summer months she has a healthy spattering over her cheeks and nose.
As for clothing May can carry off several styles with little effort however since she spends more time than she likes to think about at St Mungos she is nearly always seen in her uniform or running about with her black cape over the top. When out of work she loves vintage clothing and swears she was born in the wrong century when it comes to her clothing choices. Oh and she adores hats.
Since May is Welsh she has an accent however thanks to years of school and now living in London it has softened somewhat.

Maybelle would love to own her own little cottage somewhere back home in Wales, probably with a cat and a dog and perhaps a few chickens. It would need a lovely big garden so she can wile away the hours to her hearts content. She would also love to marry, become a wife and have several children but at the moment her career is quite important to her.

overall personality[/i]
The first thing you will notice about May is that she is blonde but don't let that old saying about blondes slip into your head for the last thing this girl is is an airhead! Despite being a Hufflepuff alumni there could have been every chance of her being a Ravenclaw. She is a very smart young woman, who, once she had put her mind to what she wanted to do in life made sure she achieved exactly that. She loves books but not to the same extent as those in the Ravenclaw house and is certainly not afraid to get her hands dirty for she spends every free moment she can working in her small garden.
Always seen with a smile on her face she is described as friendly and warm hearted but at the same time many of her patients know her to be firm and not one to argue with. She is incredibly stubborn and simply doesn't take no for an answer from those she looks after. May is not afraid to march into any wing of the hospital, a frown on her face and eyes set in determination if any of her fellow trainees are struggling with their own patients and she is always there to help even the most senior of staff. This determination has signalled that she is quite likely to go very far in her career and she certainly hopes to become a matron in the future and perhaps even work at Hogwarts!
As a prefect in her last year of school May has all the qualities of being a leader and was always a great favourite with the younger years of her house, being fair when it came to dealing out punishments but at the same time being firm in her decisions. May liked to deal with things herself, not willing to take things to those in authority if it could be helped and whilst this is always a good work ethic it was also very difficult for her to ask for help when she really needs it. Not that she isn't willing to! She just likes being able to stand on her own two feet.
May is a romantic at heart and often daydreams of the day someone will appear in her life and whisk her away but at the same time she knows that in order for a relationship to work both parties need to work at it and compromise on things. May is also one of those people that doesn't think a relationship can be worked on just a number. As long as they love one another what difference does it make if one is older than the other? (Of course she would never even dream of doing anything illegal! Its quite a different matter when one is underage!)

history[/i]
May was born 'Maybelle Agatha Pickett' to Tabby and Leo Pickett. Born into a world of magic there was very little to show that she was only a half blood as both of her parents had gone to Hogwarts -although her mother now works in a muggle school.
For a few years May was the only child and during this time she was somewhat spoilt although her parents made sure to teach her various life lessons, despite her young age. They made sure that she knew it was a good thing to share in life, that by working hard she would be able to fulfil her every dream and that family was worth more than all the gold in Gringotts so by the time her sister Peggy arrived into the world May had worked out that being jealous of a new baby simply wasn't the way to go. Besides she adored the younger sibling and being the elder sister made sure to keep Peggy happy by playing with her and even gave the other girl her most cherished doll (Peggy still carries it everywhere).
By the time she was six she was well settled into muggle schooling, her parents choosing to have her educated in both worlds so that when the time came she would be able to settle down anywhere. She loved school although she missed her family greatly but May was never going to be known as a shy child and easily made friends. This year also brought her final sibling into the world although it had not been an easy birth. There were complications and he was very premature, however they were told that this was nothing to really worry over and for some months it looked like he would recover from that trauma until the day came when his blood tests came back. The news was terrible and even at their young age both girls knew that something was badly wrong for their mother would often cry for no apparent reason and their father would pace about the room with a deep frown set on his face.
Terence was diagnosed with Leukaemia and immediately began treatments to try and cure him. Having grown up in a house where magic was the norm young May simply couldn't understand why they couldn't magic him better, her mind not developed enough to know that it was something more than magic could fix. It was a muggle disease and it was only as she got older and her brother grew weaker that she began to research everything she could about it. Matches of his blood type were few and far between and by some sheer miracle shared between the siblings. Yet the children were too young to go through so much pain and it took some convincing on her part for her parents to even consider doing something so terrible to another of their children for they lived in hope that a donor would be found elsewhere.
For most people the arrival of their Hogwarts letter signalled the start of a new adventure but for May it was a letter taking her away from a family that needed her more than ever. She might only have been eleven but she knew exactly what needed to be done and yet her parents decided it was the best thing for her and before she knew what was happening everything had been bought and she was on the platform waiting to leave. Her entire family were there to send her off and the tears fell only when her brother -allowed to leave the hospital for the occasion- handed over an owl. “So you can write to me and tell me everything.â€
Despite being a very smart individual the sorting hat saw the size of her heart and decided that she would be a Hufflepuff. May loved her house the moment she became a part of it but for the first few months found it very hard to become involved with the others, her heart aching to be at home with her brother until at least he wrote to her telling her that he was feeling a lot better and that she needed to start making friends so that he could meet them come the summer holidays. From that moment she began to work harder, gaining friends and making the most of her time at the school. It was no surprise to see a smile on her face although those who knew her well knew it was often a faked on as worry seeped deep into her eyes.
This worry continued for some years and by the time she hit her fourth year it was confirmed that unless her brother was given another transplant (for they had managed to find one) he would die, his body rejecting the treatments. For Maybelle this was the straw that broke the camels back and for the first time in a long while confronted her parents and demanded they allow her to give bone marrow. If it could save Terry then they had to at least try! They gave in and the summer between her fourth and fifth year the doctors took what was needed. For May the pain was nothing since she knew that he might very well get better after it. However it was not to be and Terry's body rejected the transplant. Tabby and Leo were forced to break the news to their daughters that the 'cure' wasn't working and it was with a few heartbreaking months that they were all forced to watch as Terry's body eventual gave up the fight for life. It had been a sheer miracle -the doctors had told them- that he had lived this long. For Maybelle this was the start of a terrible new term at school as she and her sister adjusted to the fact that their little brother was no longer with them. It was also at this point that May began to work hard towards her new chosen career.
By the time she had graduated from Hogwarts she had been a prefect for her last year and the pain of losing her brother was slowly starting to lessen and the smile began to creep back onto her face. Getting several outstanding results in her exams she was easily accepted into the training programme at St Mungos. Becoming a nurse was something she was passionate about and being able to help people had taken a deep root within her heart. She hadn't been able to save her brother from the illness that had claimed him but she knew that with the work she did there was every chance she could help other families keep their loved ones. Of course, working in a magical hospital was completely different to a muggle one but since magical world accepted adulthood before the mundane one did it was the obvious choice.
Moving from her home in Wales was a tough decision, especially since it took her away from a home she loved but it was the right one for her and her parents helped pay for a flat that would be hers until she decided to leave it. Away from the constant reminders of her heartbreak she has settled in quite happily and the girl many knew before the tragedy was starting to reappear. One day the pain might lessen enough for her to not tear up at the very thought of Terry and she does long for that day to come...She wants to remember the boy as he had been when the treatments had been working. She has dedicated the rest of her working career to her brother and so help her she will make him and the rest of her family proud.
