Bailey had been waiting for weeks for this and finally it was here! He had been minding his business at his house table earlier that morning, laughing and joking with his mates until the morning post had arrived. He was used to getting mail of course, since his family tended to send him letters several times during the week along with the Daily Prophet and various other magazines he had subscribed to over the years but today was a little different. Two letters had stood out to him. One was of the heavy parchment that all those in the magical world would use for their correspondence although this one had the seal of the ministry of magic whereas the other had been sent to his parents home and then sent here since it was stamped with a muggle postmark.
He had known instantly what they were and had bounded away from the table with a giant grin on his face and a hasty 'See you later!' over his shoulder hurried out of the Great Hall and thanked every star he could think of right now for allowing it to be a weekend meaning he didn't have to go to class. He honestly didn't think he would have been able to contain his excitement through his classes.
It took him longer to get back to the common room than he would have liked but eventually -and somewhat out of breath- he had reached his destination and very nearly tripped through the doorway to the common room in his haste to get inside but once he made it in in one piece he threw himself down onto the nearest sofa and ripped open the first of his many pieces of mail. The first was the heavy parchment from the ministry and he quickly read over the first few lines, barely taking in the words as he did so and it was a shake of his head that he forced himself to reread the first few sentences...Although he didn't have to get through the first paragraph before he was fist pumping the air. "YES!" He had gotten the apprenticeship! Studying law had always been his dream and with this letter he would be joining those who helped enforce it in the magical world. It was like a dream come true. The only thing better than this would be the other letter being good news as well.
He eagerly ripped it open, this time learning from his previous mistake and read it slowly, absorbing the words and if possible the grin on his face got bigger. This time he couldn't contain himself and was up on his feet and doing a little happy dance before he even thought about what he was doing. He had been accepted into his first university choice! This meant he would be going to the two places he had been dreaming about for years! He would need to write to his parents right away and let them know the good news and he wouldn't be able to keep this from Brekke for long either and since she was in the school he could tell her straight away. She would be really pleased. Both of his sisters knew how hard he had worked to get this far and he hoped they would be proud of him. His father would be!
He had been so absorbed in his dance that he never noticed someone enter the common room behind him.
